In addition to this site, I also run a Substack called These Are Systems, in which I discuss applications of probability, control theory, and the engineering mindset to general-interest subjects. I try to only cover original topics that haven’t been presented better somewhere else.
A few of these articles have reached the frontpage of Hacker News. Anything that I think would appeal to a broader audience (my subscribers) I post there; for narrower technical articles and deep-dives that are unlikely to have broader appeal, I will host them on this site.
Some of my more popular These Are Systems articles include:
- Task estimation: Conquering Hofstadter’s Law
- Chaos Control!
- Voiding the warranty: how the Kalman filter updates on data
- Is the Kalman filter a low-pass filter? Sometimes!
- Causation does not even imply correlation
- Reading Jaynes: Fear not the unknown unknown
Unfortunately, like most professionals I am not free to write about the vast majority of my technical work, and even then, most of it would not appeal to a general audience. The writing that I share publicly is a very narrow slice.
Please feel free to subscribe and post a comment if you find any of my articles interesting.
